Last Sunday the fourth event in this season’s CrossGuns Junior Series, sponsored by SnookerHQ and The Billiard Co., took place at CrossGuns in Dublin.
Despite the inclement weather a good entry saw Paul Smith from the Roadstone SC win the Under-14 tournament and Andrei Blondu from Terry Rodgers SC claim the Under-19 spoils.
With several new faces playing in their first event on the snooker series it was debutant Paul Smith who came through the younger field to claim his maiden win.
John Joyce still leads The Billiard Co. Junior Player of the Year rankings but will no doubt be impressed by Smith’s victory.
Another notable debutant was ten year-old Aaron Smith from the Royal SC in Navan.
Although losing to his namesake Paul Smith in the first round of the U-14 tournament he went on to reach the semi-finals of the U-19 competition.
No doubt we will see a lot more of Paul and Aaron over the rest of the series.
The U-19 contest saw Andrei Blondu return to winning ways and his 3-0 defeat of Dan Merrigan from Roadstone in the final saw him stretch his lead at the top of the CrossGuns Player of the Year rankings – thus denying a double for the Roadstone club.
Blondu still leads the way for the SnookerHQ high break award with his run of 83 from Event 1.
Once again I would like to thank all the players, their friends, and parents for supporting the event and I look forward to seeing you all again at Event 5 on Saturday, January 9th.
