Reanne Evans won’t feature at the venue stages of the Welsh Open after a 4-1 defeat to Soheil Vahedi on Thursday in Wolverhampton.
Iran’s Vahedi, an amateur top-up in the tournament, advanced to the last 64 with breaks of 104, 54, and 53.
Playing on the first of a two-year card, Evans has failed to win a single match this season on the professional circuit – with the latest reverse in the Welsh Open taking her record to 11 losses and two draws this term.
It comes during a difficult period for the Englishwoman, who lost in the Women’s British Open final in January and in last week’s Women’s World Championship in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, former Welsh Open champion Ali Carter safely progressed to the tournament proper in Newport thanks to a 4-2 victory against Lei Peifan.
Ryan Day qualified for his home event via the same margin against Chang Bingyu, while former world champion Graeme Dott edged Steven Hallworth in a decider.
Elsewhere, Yuan Sijun recorded the only whitewash of day three, comprehensively overcoming Fraser Patrick with a bagel scoreline.
Among the others to qualify for the Celtic Manor Resort were Hammad Miah, Ashley Carty, and Zak Surety.
On Friday, the Welsh Open qualifying round continues with Welsh duo Jamie Jones and Michael White set to enter the fray.
