Summary
Kyren Wilson first turned professional in 2010 and initially struggled to get to grips with life on the Main Tour.
He was immediately relegated from the circuit but got back in 2013 on the back of strong performances on the now defunct Players Tour Championship series.
The Kettering cueist’s outlook then completely changed at the 2015 Shanghai Masters, when he won an incredible nine matches from the qualifying stages to claim a maiden ranking title.
Not long after, Wilson broke into the top eight of the world rankings and has been an almost ever-present since, reaching a high of number three in 2024.
The Englishman added several ranking titles to his collection, but there have been many near misses too.
MORE PLAYER PROFILES:
The most high-profile of those transpired at the 2020 World Snooker Championship when he was denied by Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Between 2016 and 2021, Wilson reached at least the quarter-finals in Sheffield, and he was also a finalist at the 2018 Masters.
Instilled with a belief that he’s destined to rank among the very best of the game, Wilson was on the cusp of making the major breakthrough but continuously fell short.
He suffered further disappointment in the finals of both the Champion of Champions and the Tour Championship.
But after a poor run of form during the 2023/24 campaign, Wilson finally realised his dream of becoming world champion by beating Jak Jones in the 2024 final.
