Zhang Anda makes 147 break in final

Zhang Anda compiled a remarkable 147 break in the International Championship final on Sunday.

In front of an enthralled audience in Tianjin, the Chinese competitor produced the perfect moment in the third frame of his title-deciding contest with Tom Ford.

The maximum effort represents a second in professional snooker for Zhang, adding to his 147 at last year’s European Masters qualifiers.

Orchestrating it in a final of this significance is quite another accomplishment, however.

It is yet again an indication of the seismic strides Zhang has made over the course of this year, and in particular during this season.

The 31 year-old was labelled as the best player to never be ranked inside the top 64 for a long time.

Zhang finally broke into that bracket for the first time in 2023, but he is now challenging for a berth within the top 16.

Indeed, if he were to pocket the £175,000 top prize on Sunday, the recent English Open runner-up would move to number 15 in the official two-year standings.

For the 147 break, Zhang is set to receive a share of the £5,000 high break prize after matching Ryan Day’s similar contribution from the qualifiers.

It’s the third maximum break of this season and marks the 192nd in competitive play on the main tour overall.

The International Championship final is being played over 19 frames and will conclude later on Sunday, with either Zhang or Ford set to capture a maiden ranking crown.

Zhang leads 5-4 after the first session.
