More than one-third of all players to have competed at the Crucible Theatre since 1977 have reached the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship.
It’s a significant milestone in Sheffield.
By the time the last eight are confirmed, the frenetic early-round chaos gives way to a more focused, high-stakes environment, with the famous single-table setup looming just one win away.
Three victories from that point separate a player from lifting the sport’s most prestigious trophy, but even reaching the quarter-finals is an achievement that has represented the high point of many careers.
Across the Crucible era, a total of 236 players have featured at the venue. Of those, 89 have gone on to appear in at least one World Championship quarter-final.
That exclusive list grew again in 2026, with both Hossein Vafaei and Wu Yize reaching the last eight for the first time.
Fittingly, the pair face each other across Tuesday and Wednesday for a place in the semi-finals, guaranteeing that one of them will extend their breakthrough run even further.
The quarter-final stage often strikes a perfect balance in the tournament. The field has been whittled down to the elite performers of the fortnight, but the sense of opportunity still feels tangible.
For some, it represents a career highlight – a moment to be savoured on snooker’s grandest stage. For others, it serves as a stepping stone toward even greater achievements at the home of snooker.
It’s also a round that tends to deliver drama.
With four matches played across a compact schedule, the tension naturally intensifies as the business end of the championship takes shape.
But how well do you really know the players who have made it this far?
From one-time surprise runs to multiple appearances from the game’s all-time greats, the list of Crucible quarter-finalists spans generations and eras.
The question is: how many of the 89 players who have reached the World Snooker Championship quarter-finals at the Crucible can you name?
