What began as 24 contenders at the start of the week has quickly been whittled down to the final eight with the 2026 Shanghai Masters quarter-finals coming on Thursday.
Eight players were seeded through to the last 16 and all eight have survived their opening tests to reach the quarters in China.
Three victories are still required to land the prestigious invitational crown and with it the £210,000 top prize.
Here is a brief look at the upcoming quarter-final fixtures.
Kyren Wilson vs Mark Williams
Reigning champion Kyren Wilson began his defence in strong fashion, beating record five-time winner Ronnie O’Sullivan with a 6-4 scoreline.
Wilson trailed 4-3 after the Rocket made a hat-trick of century breaks, but the 2024 world champion responded with breaks of 89, 79, and 97 to stay alive in the competition.
The Kettering cueist will next face Mark Williams for a place in the semi-finals, the Welshman having recorded a tight 6-5 victory over Chris Wakelin.
Williams has never won the Shanghai Masters – either as a ranking event or in its current guise as an invitational.
That makes it arguably the biggest event on the calendar that he has never emerged successfully from, but Williams suffers from an inferior head-to-head record with Wilson.

Zhao Xintong vs Neil Robertson
Zhao Xintong and Neil Robertson couldn’t have been involved in much different encounters in the last 16.
While Zhao rapidly thrashed Ding Junhui 6-2 with the aid of three tons, Robertson was involved in a dramatic tussle with Xiao Guodong that went the distance.
The Australian defied a barrage of sizable contributions from his opponent, including a 147 break, by winning the last four frames for a 6-5 triumph.
Like Williams, Robertson and Zhao are a couple of other high-profile players who are bidding to claim a maiden Shanghai Masters title.
Zhao leads their head-to-head 3-1, with their biggest match to date coming at last season’s Riyadh Season Snooker Championship final where the Chinese star won 5-2.

Judd Trump vs John Higgins
World number one Judd Trump began his 2026/27 snooker season with a 6-4 victory over Barry Hawkins, while John Higgins edged Jack Lisowski in a decider.
Having met in World Championship finals, Trump and Higgins are certainly no strangers to facing off against one another in important ties.
Indeed, they share a fascinating head-to-head record with 28 wins apiece and many of those going down to the wire.
Both of their previous matches from 2026, in fact, have ended 6-5 in favour of Higgins, who also beat Trump 10-9 to win the Shanghai Masters as a ranking event back in 2012.
As heavyweight showdowns go, this often lives up to its billing.

Shaun Murphy vs Wu Yize
It hasn’t taken long, but there is already a repeat of the memorable World Championship final between Shaun Murphy and Wu Yize.
The duo needed all 35 frames to determine the outcome of a compelling climax to the Crucible, with Wu coming out on top to secure a maiden Sheffield crown.
Their respective opening outings of the new term ended with Murphy beating Zhou Yuelong 6-5 and Wu overcoming Si Jiahui 6-2.
The Magician will be desperate to gain a modicum of revenge, having also lost to Wu at the Masters in January when he was the reigning champion.
There have already been a plethora of century breaks across the opening three days of this tournament, and it’d be a surprise if heavy scoring wasn’t on show again in this clash.
