Chang Bingyu’s Snooker Career

Chang Bingyu won the IBSF World Amateur Championship in 2018 before earning promotion to the World Snooker Tour a year later. He finished top of the CBSA China Tour rankings in 2019 and subsequently joined the practice stable at the renowned Victoria Snooker Academy in Sheffield.

He initially found the transition to professional snooker difficult, with his early progress then disrupted by the match-fixing and betting scandal that rocked the sport in 2022 and 2023. Chang was one of ten Chinese players banned as a result of the investigation, receiving a two-year suspension.

Chang returned to competition as an amateur and immediately regained his professional status by winning the Asia-Pacific Snooker Championship in 2025. His return to the World Snooker Tour was followed by a breakthrough 2025/26 season in which he reached the final of the Scottish Open, losing to Chris Wakelin.

Less than a year later, Chang secured the biggest title of his career so far at the 2026 Wuhan Open. He defeated Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Zhao Xintong during his impressive run as he claimed his maiden ranking title.

The victory marked a rapid rise for a player who had lost two years of his career to suspension. With a ranking already inside the world’s top 25 and three maximum breaks to his name, Chang is expected to challenge for further major honours as his career develops.
