Quinten Hann’s Snooker Career
Quinten Hann turned professional in 1995 after winning the IBSF World Amateur Championship the previous year, defeating David Gray in the final. He arrived on the professional tour with a reputation as a highly aggressive and confident competitor.
Hann quickly became known as one of snooker’s most unconventional characters. A former world eight-ball pool champion, he frequently employed unorthodox tactics, including deliberately smashing the reds apart from the break-off shot, a move that drew both attention and criticism.
At his best, Hann was capable of competing with established names. He qualified for the World Snooker Championship on six occasions and reached the last 16 at the Crucible in both 2002 and 2003. His strongest ranking position came in the mid-2000s, when he climbed to a career-high world ranking of number 14.
One of his most notable tournament runs came at the 2004 Irish Masters, where he reached the semi-finals. However, his career was frequently overshadowed by disciplinary issues, including altercations with fellow players and officials.
Hann’s professional career came to an abrupt and damaging end in 2006, when he was banned for eight years by the WPBSA for match-fixing offenses. The sanction effectively ended his time at the top level of the sport, and his reputation never recovered.
Outside of snooker, Hann was also involved in a number of legal issues, further cementing his status as one of the most controversial figures ever to appear on the professional tour.
