Graeme Dott’s Snooker Career
After turning professional in 1994, Graeme Dott steadily built a reputation as one of the most determined competitors on the tour. His first major breakthrough came at the 2004 World Snooker Championship, where he reached the final at the Crucible Theatre.
That run proved no fluke. Two years later, Dott returned to Sheffield and produced the finest spell of snooker of his career, defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan in the semi-finals before grinding out an 18-14 victory over Peter Ebdon in the final to lift the world title.
A year later and just before his title defence, Dott added a second ranking trophy by beating Jamie Cope in the final of the China Open. Despite falling to the Curse of the Crucible in Sheffield, he still ended the 2006/07 season ranked number two in the world.
Known throughout his career for his battling qualities, Dott later spoke openly about his struggles with depression, which contributed to periods of inconsistency. Even so, he reached a third World Championship final in 2010, finishing runner-up to Neil Robertson.
While further titles proved elusive, Dott remained a regular presence in the latter stages of events, finishing runner-up in numerous ranking tournaments. Though his overall trophy haul was modest, his Crucible triumph ensured his place in snooker history.
However, Dott’s snooker career was severely tarnished in 2025 after allegations of sexual abuse of minors, through which he was charged and faces trial in 2026.
