Summary

There’s one thing that nobody can take away from Graeme Dott – his incredible world title success from 2006.

The tenacious Scot proved that his run to the final at the Crucible Theatre two years earlier was no fluke.

In the semi-finals, Dott avenged his defeat to Ronnie O’Sullivan in the 2004 title decider with a remarkable 17-11 victory in which he won all eight frames during the third session of play.

The final against Peter Ebdon was a dogged affair as the Pocket Dynamo emerged with the silverware courtesy of a gruelling 18-14 triumph.

A year later and just before his defence in Sheffield, Dott landed a second career ranking title by defeating Jamie Cope in the final of the China Open.

Despite subsequently succumbing to the Curse of the Crucible in the World Championship first round, Dott ended the 2006/07 campaign as the world number two.

MORE PLAYER PROFILES:

Known for his battling qualities on the baize, Dott’s off-table struggles were made public soon after as he opened up on his battle with depression.

It led to inconsistency in his form, but a third World Championship run to a final was achieved in 2010 when he ultimately came up just short against Neil Robertson.

There were many other near misses throughout a long career in which he has been a runner-up in eight ranking events, two minor-ranking events, and several invitationals.

Dott may regret not having his name etched on more trophies, but there will in turn be many players out there who would swap their collection of titles for the big one in Sheffield.

That is a feat that will always rank proudly on Dott’s resumé.
