Summary

Jordan Brown first competed on the professional main tour during the 2009/2010 campaign on the back of success in the Northern Ireland Amateur Championship.

With the pro circuit in disarray from mismanagement and with few opportunities to make his mark, Brown was immediately relegated after just one season.

Despite subsequently gaining various chances to participate as an amateur, it took him another eight years before he got his second proper go at the big-time as a professional.

Brown won six matches at Q School, including victories over Andy Hicks and Jamie Cope, to safeguard his long-awaited return.

At first, the player known as the Antrim Ferrari generally struggled to record many positive results.

But just as it looked as though he might suffer relegation again, Brown’s guaranteed two-year stint ended with him qualifying for the World Championship for the first time.

He duly lost to Mark Selby, but the ranking points earned helped him to finish top of the one-year list of players outside the top 64 on the official standings, ensuring a fresh two-year card.

That certainly proved pivotal to his career, as less than a year later Brown orchestrated an unexpected run at the Welsh Open.

Behind closed doors as a result of the COVID pandemic, Brown gained revenge on Selby in the quarter-finals, upset Stephen Maguire in the last four, and stunned Ronnie O’Sullivan in a title-deciding thriller that ended 9-8.

As the world number no.81, Brown became the lowest-ranked player to claim a ranking title since Dave Harold in 1993.
