September 2025 snooker guide: key tournaments and schedule

The 2025/26 snooker season is gathering momentum and there is another bumper month of action on the baize to come in September.

There have been three ranking events so far this term, with Stephen Maguire emerging from the campaign-opening Championship League Snooker and Neil Robertson prevailing at the megarich Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.

On Saturday, Xiao Guodong joined the winners’ enclosure through his successful defence of the Wuhan Open in China.

There are some big snooker events to come later in September, so let’s do a quick rundown of what there is to look forward to.

World Snooker Tour

English Open

The next ranking tournament on the 2025/26 snooker calendar is the English Open, which returns to Brentwood in the middle of the month.

Neil Robertson is the reigning champion after snapping a two-year drought with his 9-7 success over Wu Yize in the 2024 final.

The English Open represents the first of four events on the Home Nations Series with the players competing for a £100,000 top prize in addition to the coveted Steve Davis Trophy.

When is it? September 11th to September 21st

British Open

Immediately following the English Open is the British Open, which will be back at the Centaur in Cheltenham for the third successive season.

Mark Selby won the title and the Clive Everton Trophy a year ago courtesy of a 10-5 victory over John Higgins in the final.

A preliminary phase of this event was already staged in June, but the top 16 seeds all had their initial matches held over to the venue.

The British Open is one of only a couple of ranking events on the annual schedule that incorporates a completely random draw for each round.

Before the English Open and the British Open, there will be a batch of qualifiers this week held at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.

John Higgins, Mark Selby, and Shaun Murphy are among some of the bigger names who will be forced into the cubicles to negotiate their opening fixtures at the Xi’an Grand Prix from September 1st to September 3rd.

Beyond that is the preliminary phase for the Northern Ireland Open, with those seeded from 33 to 128 jostling for a ticket to compete in Belfast.

The Northern Ireland Open qualifiers run from September 4th to September 7th.

The International Championship qualifiers also get under way on the last day of the month at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
