Jimmy White and Marco Fu win as 2025 English Open begins

Jimmy White and Marco Fu advanced to the second round as the 2025 English Open commenced on Thursday at the Brentwood Centre.

There were triumphs too for Pakistan’s Haris Tahir, Iran’s Amir Sarkhosh, and Belgian Julien Leclercq.

  1. For me, it was very odd On Yee broke this record yesterday as earlier in the day I was checking some statistics on Alison Fisher, triggered by listening to her on the Framed podcast. I saw the h2h between herself and Stephen Hendry, noting her contribution of 133 in one of her two matches with the Scot. It turns out this was the record for a highest break recorded by a woman on the pro tour.

I also found out Fisher made centuries in both her meetings with Hendry and defeated Tony Drago in the Matchroom League.

Ken Doherty has skipped the English Open.
