Snooker rankings: update after Mark Allen’s victory in the 2025 English Open

The latest snooker rankings update follows the conclusion of the English Open, the 2025/26 season’s fourth ranking event.

Mark Allen captured his first ranking title in 19 months in dramatic circumstances as he pipped Zhou Yuelong 9-8 to win late on Sunday night in Brentwood.

Remarkably, it was the Northern Irishman’s fifth deciding-frame victory in a row in the tournament, with the trophy seemingly always destined to end up in his hands.

As usual upon the climax of a ranking event, let’s reflect on how the most recent action on the snooker table has impacted the rankings.

What’s happening in the Top 16?

Judd Trump has experienced an uncharacteristically difficult start to the 2025/26 campaign, with no appearances in the latter rounds to his name as of yet.

The Englishman continues, however, to enjoy a huge buffer of more than £600,000 at the top of the world rankings with Kyren Wilson, who was defeated in his first round last week, still in second place.

Neil Robertson occupies third ahead of Ronnie O’Sullivan, who hasn’t competed since losing to the former in the final of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.

Mark Williams and John Higgins are next in the order ahead of Allen, who leapfrogs his way back up to seventh courtesy of landing the £100,000 top prize.

Ding Junhui, Xiao Guodong, and Mark Selby complete the top ten with world champion Zhao Xintong and Barry Hawkins not far behind.

Zhang Anda, Chris Wakelin, and Si Jiahui remain unchanged in the following slots, while Shaun Murphy’s run to the last 16 proved to be enough to see the Magician secure an immediate return to the elite bracket of the rankings.

The order of the top 16 will play a crucial role soon enough with the seeding cut-off point for the UK Championship on the horizon.

There are four ranking events left before the automatic tickets to the Barbican Centre in York are confirmed.

Zhang is provisionally way down in 23rd in these standings with Gary Wilson currently in line to benefit through a berth in the first round proper at the opening leg of the Triple Crown.

Who were the other movers?

For now, though, recent Wuhan Open runner-up Wilson drops back outside the top 16 on the official rolling two-year list and is down to 17th.

Jak Jones rises up two places to 20th after his appearance at the semi-final stage of the English Open, while the £45,000 that Zhou accumulated takes the Chinese cueist back up to 30th.

Elsewhere, Luca Brecel’s first quarter-final of the season elevates the Belgian Bullet up to 38th.

1-year snooker rankings

After failing to qualify for the 2025 edition, Mark Allen looks set to be one of the 12 players who will qualify for the prestigious Tour Championship again.

The Manchester event is one of three whereby qualification is based on the one-year snooker rankings, with the others being the 32-player World Grand Prix and the 16-strong Players Championship.

The Pistol is up to fourth, behind only Neil Robertson, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Xiao Guodong who all remain unchanged in their positions.

Despite missing out on ranking glory in a final for the fourth time, Zhou has done his chances of making a debut appearance at the Tour Championship the world of good and is up to 10th.

Jak Jones is into the top 32 thanks to the £21,000 that the Welshman amassed through reaching the last four.

Peculiarly, considering there have been four ranking events this term already, Judd Trump is still way down at rung number 44 on this ladder.

John Higgins and Luca Brecel are a couple of other high-profile names who are struggling to qualify for the World Grand Prix as things stand.

There are still more than half-a-dozen ranking events between now and Hong Kong, though.

Note: Ranking points earned from the British Open, Northern Ireland Open, and Xi’an Grand Prix qualifiers are provisional and have not been included in the below list.

Is there a Home Nations Series bonus this season?

Yes, there is indeed. For the second season in a row, the big jackpot that is sponsored by BetVictor will be awarded through performances on the Home Nations Series only.

The English Open was the first of these events with the Northern Ireland Open, the Scottish Open, and the Welsh Open to follow later in the campaign.

The highest earner at the end of these four tournaments will land a bumper bonus worth £150,000 with Allen now in pole position.

Winning the English Open proved to be a good omen last season as 2024 champion Neil Robertson eventually pocketed the tidy sum.

What is the next snooker event?

The next snooker event is already under way with the British Open having begun on Monday in Cheltenham.

The season’s fifth ranking event takes place at the Centaur and runs from September 22nd to 28th.

More daily updates on that tournament and others will be available right here on SnookerHQ.com.
