The qualifiers for the 2025 Scottish Open concluded on Friday with 32 players sealing their spots at the venue stages.
The ranking event doesn’t take place until the middle of December, but a couple of the early rounds were already staged in Wigan this week.
As usual with Home Nations Series tournaments, the top 32 have been seeded through to the main event.
The others lower down the rankings were battling it out for the other places in the last 64 as the pursuit to capture the Stephen Hendry Trophy began at the Robin Park Leisure Centre.
Some of the higher-profile names to safely make it through the preliminary phase were recent British Open finalist Anthony McGill, four-time ranking event winner Ryan Day, and former Masters champion Matthew Stevens.
There were victories too for up-and-coming young talents Stan Moody and Liam Pullen, who have each shown promise on the main tour this season.
Former Snooker Shoot Out champions Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Michael Holt progressed in the competition, while Robert Milkins continued his mini resurgence of late with a dramatic 4-3 defeat of Iulian Boiko.
Among the bigger names who didn’t make it through were three-time ranking event winner Ricky Walden and former European Masters champion Jimmy Robertson, who lost to Wang Yuchen and Artemijs Zizins respectively.
There was also a disappointing result for Aaron Hill, whose recent momentum up the rankings hit the brakes with an unexpected 4-2 reverse against Ian Burns.
In an all-Chinese contest, Chang Bingyu thrashed Xu Si 4-0 to sustain his remarkable return to the tour this season following a ban.
Former Scottish Open champion Luca Brecel was due to compete in the qualifiers but withdrew, gifting a walkover to scheduled opponent Steven Hallworth.
The 2025 Scottish Open, for which the draw for the last 64 is yet to be announced, takes place at the Meadowbank Spots Centre from December 15th to 21st.
Lei Peifan is the defending champion.

Not much joy for the veterans, Ken Doherty and Jimmy White. They are not racking up many positive results.
