Chang Bingyu scored his maiden maximum at the UK Championship qualifiers on Monday, taking this season’s tally of 147 breaks on the main tour to a record 16.
The 23 year-old from China compiled the perfect knock in the seventh frame of his third-round clash with Stephen Maguire at the UK preliminaries in Wigan.
Chang, who ended up losing the game 6-5, potted an outstanding final black with the rest to continue the relentless streak of 147 breaks that are being accrued this term.
Already the second of this tournament, Chang’s effort was the 16th of the ongoing 2025/25 snooker campaign overall – meaning the previous record that was set only last season has already been eclipsed.
There are still more than five months left of the current campaign, so the record is not only going to be broken, it’ll be completely smashed.
A ridiculous target could be set, and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the figure could reach 30 or even higher.
The first 147 break this season was made by Fan Zhengyi at the season-opening ranking event, Championship League Snooker.
Three players have contributed two each to the collection, with Ronnie O’Sullivan memorably compiling a brace in the same match at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.
Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Irishman Aaron Hill are the others to have made two in the short time span.
Earlier in this event, Liam Pullen joined the 147 break club with his excellent effort against Kaylan Patel, with Chang now the newest member.

Chang actually constructed a hat-trick of century breaks during his meeting with Maguire but lost the last two frames in a close loss.
The latter, a UK Championship winner 21 years ago, instead advances to the fourth and final round known as Judgement Day.
Several other contenders joined the Scot at the last hurdle, including David Gilbert, Daniel Wells, and Lyu Haotian.
Like Maguire, all three required deciding frames to edge their respective 6-5 thrillers against Iulian Boiko, Robert Milkins, and Matthew Stevens.
There were a few pretty big upsets with Chris Wakelin – the 17th seed in the draw and somebody who just missed out on automatic qualification for York – beaten 6-3 by Mitchell Mann.
Former world champion Luca Brecel’s troubles also continued with a tame 6-3 reverse against Ian Burns, while Jackson Page lost to Michael Holt by the same margin.
The other result from the third round saw Yuan Sijun pip Ishpreet Singh Chadha with a 6-4 display.
The penultimate round concludes on Tuesday with 24 more spots in Judgement Day up for grabs.
Among those entering the fray in the competition are Stuart Bingham, Ali Carter, and recent Northern Ireland Open champion Jack Lisowski.
