Matches at the German Masters qualifiers concluded on Thursday with the field for the Tempodrom later this month now set.
In another tweak to the format for the ranking event this year, only the top 16 seeds had their round-of-64 matches held over to the venue stages in Berlin.
That means the likes of defending champion Kyren Wilson, world number one Judd Trump, and world champion Zhao Xintong will all be seen at the calendar year’s opening ranking tournament.
Ronnie O’Sullivan is even expected to make a rare appearance in the competition, although whether the Rocket actually shows up remains to be seen.
Back to the qualifiers in Sheffield, and 16 players have already booked their spots in the last 32 of the competition.
That includes two-time German Masters champion Ali Carter, who recorded a 5-2 success over Ricky Walden, and former runner-up Tom Ford.
Stuart Bingham thumped Ken Doherty 5-0 in a battle of the former world champions, the latter having emerged from two earlier rounds with a brace of 5-4 scorelines.
There were easy victories too for the likes of Zhang Anda, Elliot Slessor, and Jimmy Robertson who respectively bagelled Matthew Stevens, Liam Highfield, and Jackson Page.
Jack Lisowski hasn’t won too many matches since becoming a ranking event winner for the first time with his glory at the Northern Ireland Open.
But the 2021 German Masters finalist had little trouble negotiating his single match in the qualifiers, inflicting a 5-1 defeat on 17 year-old rookie Lan Yuhao
Elsewhere, there were several ties that were much closer and went right down to the wire.
David Gilbert pipped Luca Brecel in a 5-4 thriller, winning three out of the last four frames with runs of 84, 107, and 61.
One of the standout performances came from lowly ranked Gao Yang, who emerged from all three qualifying rounds and ended with a deciding-frame victory over a frustrated Stephen Maguire.
Zhou Yuelong also needed all nine frames to get past his round-three opponent Daniel Wells.
Ryan Day, Pang Junxu, Anthony McGill, and Julien Leclercq each managed 5-3 wins – the latter coming through from the opening hurdle as well.
In an all-Chinese affair, Xu Si comfortably beat former Scottish Open champion Lei Peifan 5-2, while Jak Jones ousted Marco Fu by the same margin.
The main stages of the 2026 German Masters commence on January 26th with the final to be played on February 1st and £100,000 going to the champion this year.

Stuart Bingham now leads Ken Doherty 7-5 in their H2H. They first met in the 2002 World Championship, a last 32 contest which saw Bingham miss the final pink for a maximum. Doherty won the match 10-8.
Even though the German Masters starts a week after the Masters, I’d be surprised if O’Sullivan plays in both.
