Alain Robidoux’s Snooker Career
Alain Robidoux turned professional in 1987 and quickly established himself as one of the leading Canadian players of his era, competing regularly on the Main Tour throughout the late 1980s and 1990s.
He emerged as a strong supporting figure during Canada’s most competitive period in professional snooker, alongside the likes of Cliff Thorburn and Bob Chaperon. That trio combined to win the 1990 World Cup for Canada, one of the most significant team achievements in the country’s snooker history.
Robidoux’s individual career featured several deep runs at ranking events. In 1996, he reached the final of the German Open, where he was narrowly defeated by Ronnie O’Sullivan in a closely fought contest. The following year, he produced his best performance at the World Championship, advancing to the semi-finals at the Crucible Theatre.
Despite reaching a career-high ranking of world number nine, his form deteriorated sharply during the 1997/98 snooker season. Persistent cue issues contributed to a dramatic downturn, with Robidoux losing all of his matches during that campaign.
Although he remained on tour for several more seasons, he was unable to recover his earlier consistency and eventually dropped off the professional circuit in 2004. Away from the Main Tour, Robidoux continued to compete domestically, winning the Canadian National Championship on seven occasions, most recently in 2009.
