Chris Wakelin’s Snooker Career
A former English under-21 champion, Chris Wakelin turned professional in 2013 after emerging successfully from Q School. Results were limited during his debut season on the Main Tour, but he showed more promise during the 2014/15 campaign.
Although he failed to break into the top 64, strong performances in the PTC Series earned him a fresh two-year tour card via the order of merit. Wakelin also reached the quarter-finals of a ranking event during that season, progressing to the last eight at the Indian Open.
Across the following years, he did enough to retain his tour status and made three appearances at the Crucible Theatre for the World Championship, though deep runs in ranking events remained infrequent. By 2023, Wakelin had reached only a handful of ranking quarter-finals, making his breakthrough at that year’s Snooker Shoot Out particularly significant.
Thriving in the unpredictable format, he reached the latter stages for the first time and defeated Daniel Wells to reach the final. Wakelin then produced a tournament-high break of 119 to beat Julien Leclercq and claim his maiden ranking title.
That success marked a turning point in his career. Wakelin became a more consistent performer on tour, reaching further ranking finals and adding a second title at the 2025 Scottish Open. Earlier in the same year, he made his Masters debut and reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship, achievements that underlined his rise into the top tier of the professional game.
