Jak Jones’s Snooker Career
Jak Jones turned professional in 2010 after winning the European Under-19 Amateur Championship, earning his first tour card as a teenager. His early years on the professional circuit were largely spent outside the sport’s upper rankings, as he worked to establish himself against more experienced opponents.
Jones lost his professional status after his initial spell on tour but rebuilt his career through the amateur ranks. In 2016, he won the European Amateur Championship, securing a return to the Main Tour and beginning a more stable period that saw him retain his professional status consistently thereafter.
Over the following seasons, Jones developed a reputation as a resilient competitor who was perhaps underachieving as a professional player. He reached the semi-finals of the Gibraltar Open in 2022, the World Championship quarter-finals in 2023, and continued to post solid results without breaking through to a ranking final.
Jones’ career trajectory changed dramatically at the 2024 World Snooker Championship. Entering the tournament ranked 44th in the world, he produced a series of composed and disciplined performances at the Crucible Theatre to reach the final, defeating several higher-ranked opponents along the way.
Although he was beaten in the final by Kyren Wilson, the run represented one of the most unexpected World Championship finals of the modern era. The result briefly lifted Jones into the top 16 and marked a clear career peak, later followed by a semi-final appearance at the 2025 English Open.
