Jordan Brown’s Snooker Career
Jordan Brown first joined the professional ranks during the 2009/10 season after success in the Northern Ireland Amateur Championship. His initial spell on the main tour was short-lived, however, as limited opportunities and a difficult competitive environment led to immediate relegation after just one season.
Over the following years, Brown continued to compete in the amateur ranks and made occasional appearances in professional events, but it was not until 2018 that he earned a full return to the tour. That comeback was secured through Q School, where he won six matches to regain his professional status.
Progress was initially slow and results were difficult to come by, but Brown’s persistence paid off towards the end of his two-year card when he qualified for the World Championship for the first time. Although he was beaten by Mark Selby in the opening round, the ranking points earned proved crucial in securing his place on tour.
Less than a year later, Brown produced one of the most unexpected title runs in modern snooker history at the 2021 Welsh Open. Competing behind closed doors due to the COVID pandemic, he defeated Selby in the quarter-finals, Stephen Maguire in the semi-finals, and edged Ronnie O’Sullivan 9-8 in the final.
Ranked world number 81 at the time, Brown became the lowest-ranked player to win a ranking event since 1993. The victory lifted him into the top 32 and marked the defining moment of his professional career.
