Judd Trump’s Snooker Career
Even before Judd Trump became professional in 2005, there was plenty of chatter surrounding his talent on the green baize. As a teenager, Trump had been a sensation at junior level and much was expected of him when he joined the Main Tour.
It took a while for his potential to be realised, but in 2011 Trump launched himself into the public eye with a magnificent late-season display during the 2010/11 term. A maiden ranking event triumph in the China Open was quickly followed by a swashbuckling run to the World Championship final, where he was narrowly denied glory by John Higgins.
In that event, Trump’s unique brand of ‘naughty snooker’ helped to endear him to new fans, and he quickly rose to the world number one position. However, even though he landed a UK Championship crown during this period, his tendency in succumbing to inconsistency was holding him back.
A prolific break-builder, that all changed during the 2018/19 campaign when he finally began to establish himself as one of the greats of the game. Watershed wins over Ronnie O’Sullivan in the finals of the 2018 Northern Ireland Open and the 2019 Masters laid the foundations to a remarkable run of success.
A first world title followed, and in a dazzling 30-month spell Trump accumulated a staggering 14 ranking titles to assert himself as the dominant force of that time. In 2023, several months after losing in his third World Championship final, Trump won a second Masters crown by beating Mark Williams in London.
Later that calendar year, he became only the fifth player in snooker history to win three ranking titles in a row. Just after reclaiming the world number one position, Trump triumphed at the inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in 2024, where he pocketed a whopping £500,000, and he then captured the UK title for a second time, taking his career tally of ranking victories to 30.
After an unusual barren spell during which he went through the entire 2025 calendar year without silverware, Trump returned to the winners’ enclosure at the start of 2026 with a fourth German Masters victory.
