Kyren Wilson’s Snooker Career

Kyren Wilson first turned professional in 2010, but his early years on tour were difficult and he was quickly relegated from the Main Tour. He earned his way back in 2013 after strong performances as an amateur on the Players Tour Championship circuit, and from there he began building momentum as a consistent contender.

Wilson’s career changed at the 2015 Shanghai Masters, where he won a gruelling nine-match campaign from the qualifying rounds to claim his maiden ranking title. That breakthrough helped propel him into the upper tier of the game, and he soon established himself as a regular in the world’s top ranks.

While further ranking titles followed, Wilson also experienced several near misses in the sport’s biggest events. He enjoyed an impressive run of Crucible consistency between 2016 and 2021, reaching at least the quarter-finals in Sheffield on multiple occasions.

One of the most high-profile disappointments of his prime came at the 2020 World Snooker Championship, where he was denied by Ronnie O’Sullivan. Wilson also suffered further frustration in finals at invitation events such as the Champion of Champions and the Masters, repeatedly threatening a major breakthrough without quite landing it.

That defining moment finally arrived in 2024, when Wilson fulfilled his long-held ambition by winning the World Snooker Championship, defeating Jak Jones in the final to become champion at the Crucible Theatre. The confidence gained from that triumph helped him become a more prolific winner, adding multiple ranking titles during the following campaign.

In 2025, Wilson suffered defeat in a Masters final for a second time, but 12 months later he etched his name onto the Paul Hunter Trophy with victory over John Higgins.
