Mark Davis’ Snooker Career
Mark Davis first turned professional in 1991 and was an ever-present participant on the main tour for more than three decades. For much of his career, he operated as a consistent mid-ranked competitor, often capable of strong runs without regularly challenging for titles.
It took Davis almost two decades to break into the top 32 of the world rankings for the first time. A shift followed around the early 2010s, when the expanding calendar created more opportunities and he began to feature more often in the latter stages of ranking events.
Several quarter-final and semi-final appearances helped Davis briefly rise into the top 16, reaching a career-high ranking of number 12 in 2013. During this period he was beaten in five ranking semi-finals, including at the 2012 UK Championship.
His one and only ranking event final came at the 2018 English Open, where he narrowly lost 9-7 to fellow Englishman Stuart Bingham. While a ranking title eluded him, Davis did enjoy success elsewhere, particularly in shorter formats and invitational competitions.
Davis won the Six Red World Championship three times between 2009 and 2013, defeating Mark Williams, Shaun Murphy, and Neil Robertson in the finals. Further wins included the Hong Kong General Cup in 2013 and the World Seniors Championship in 2016.
