Wu Yize’s Snooker Career
Wu Yize turned professional in 2021 after establishing himself as one of China’s most promising young amateurs. His early reputation was shaped by success at junior level, most notably winning the IBSF World Under-21 Championship in 2018, which marked him out as a player with long-term potential.
Wu’s first seasons on the Main Tour were largely developmental, as he adjusted to professional conditions and focused on building consistency. While results were initially modest, he began to show signs of progress through deeper tournament runs and increasingly competitive performances against higher-ranked opponents.
His breakthrough year arrived in 2023 when he reached the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open, signalling his ability to contend in ranking events. That run was followed by further notable performances during the 2024/25 season, including runner-up finishes at both the English Open and the Scottish Open.
Those results propelled Wu steadily up the world rankings and laid the foundation for his first professional title. In 2025, he captured the International Championship with a 10-6 triumph over all-time legend John Higgins, securing his maiden ranking event victory and confirming his transition from emerging prospect to established tour winner.
The success also earned Wu a place inside the top 16 and secured his first Masters appearance in 2026, where he reached the semi-finals. While still early in his career, he has already demonstrated the scoring ability and resilience required to compete regularly in the latter stages of major tournaments.
