Zhang Anda’s Snooker Career
Zhang Anda turned professional in 2009 after winning the Asian Under-21 Championship, earning his place on the Main Tour at a young age. His debut season proved memorable, as Zhang won four qualifying matches to reach the Crucible Theatre on his first attempt at the World Championship. There, he pushed seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry to a deciding frame in the last 32.
Despite that early promise, Zhang struggled to establish himself over the following seasons. His results were largely unspectacular, and he spent long periods outside the world’s top 64.
After briefly losing his tour status, Zhang regained his place in 2012 and went on to spend eight consecutive seasons on the Main Tour without breaking into the top 64. Aside from qualifying for the World Championship in 2015 and 2016, opportunities on the TV tables were limited.
Zhang was relegated again in 2020 but rebuilt his career through strong performances on the CBSA China Tour, returning to the professional ranks a year later. Nicknamed “Mighty Mouse”, Zhang finally began to fulfill his potential during the 2022/23 season.
After breaking into the top 64 for the first time, he produced a surprise run to the final of the English Open, where he narrowly lost to Judd Trump. That display proved to be a turning point, though.
A month later, Zhang captured his maiden ranking title at the International Championship, defeating Tom Ford in the final and compiling a maximum 147 break along the way. The victory earned Zhang a place in the top 16 for the first time and secured his debut appearance at the Masters in 2024.
