There’s only two days left until the first event in the inaugural CrossGuns Junior Series.
Saturday will see Under-19 and Under-14 competitions staged in CrossGuns Snooker Club in Dublin, hosted by club owner Fin Ruane.
Ruane continues to show his strong support for underage snooker in Ireland and the series, of which there will be nine tournament dates in total, is sure to be a great success.
Indeed, he himself has, in turn, been given a lot of encouragement from various circles for his efforts to sustain grassroots snooker in the capital city and throughout the country.
That is from many circles except evidently RIBSA, the governing body who in its infinite wisdom has decided to also stage regional junior events on the exact same date this Saturday.
Considering that there isn’t exactly an abundance of competition it perhaps would have made sense for them to stamp a different date on their calendar and not force the up-and-comers to have to make a choice between the two.
Of course, sense doesn’t always come naturally to RIBSA – indeed, there is another clash in November as well.
Regardless, with a structured calendar that sees a tournament staged under each age category at the beginning of each month until next May, the CrossGuns Junior Series is bound to grow quickly.
SnookerHQ is delighted to be on board as the sponsor of the highest break prize while The Billiard Co. will also sponsor the breakthrough player of the year award at the end of the season.
Of course, what all the teenagers will be hoping for is to top the rankings at the campaign’s conclusion, thus getting to walk away with the CrossGuns junior player of the year trophy.
After each event there will be a few short notes written on a dedicated page here – with the rankings updated monthly as well.
“I’m excited about these events at CrossGuns,” expressed Ruane, who will also offer coaching and free table time when available at each event.
“Junior snooker has always been very close to my heart and for me to have the opportunity to host these tournaments for the juniors, and to see the young players enjoy playing the game as well as improving their snooker talent, gives me immense satisfaction.
“I’ve ordered the trophy which will be named the CrossGuns Junior Player of the Year and, who knows, maybe in ten or so years time there may be a few famous names on it.”
The best of luck to everyone involved in Phibsboro this Saturday.
