Saturday last saw the second event of this season’s CrossGuns Junior Series take place in Dublin.
Again with a good number of entries the action began with Under-19 Event 1 winner Andrei Blondu gaining an advantage as Jason O’Hagan and Aaron Holland, the closest to him in the rankings for player of the year, opted not to play.
However, in the first round Blondu had his work cut out against young John Joyce, the Under-14 champion from Event 1, before eventually coming through 2-1.
Blondu never really looked back and grew stronger as the day went on to only drop one more frame against Cian Daly in the final.
Blondu also had the day’s high break of 45, however he still leads the race for the SnookerHQ high break trophy with his 83 break from the first Saturday in September.
The Under-14 tournament, now played with ten reds and a best of three format, saw some quality snooker on show which eventually had John Joyce and Sean Cloak, winner and runner-up from event 1, contest the opening semi-final.
Cloak gained his revenge this time, winning 2-1, and subsequently went on to defeat Classic SC team-mate Cian Murtagh 2-1 to move into pole position in The Billiard Co. Player of the Year rankings.
Again, I would like to thank all the juniors for entering the second tournament with the sportsmanship shown on the day a credit to all the players and the game.
I look forward to welcoming you all back to CrossGuns for Event 3 which has a slight change of date on Saturday November 14th.
