Mark Selby won Group 5 of the Championship League on Tuesday at Crondon Park.
The world no.1 dominated proceedings from the get-go, winning five out of his six round-robin matches to comfortably reach the last four.
In the semi-finals he easily saw off Michael Holt with the help of two tons and he scored a group high 131 in his 3-1 final victory over Kyren Wilson.
It was a case of third-time lucky for the former runner-up, following defeats in the finals of Group 3 and Group 4.
Selby’s victory ensures his qualification for the Winners’ Group in March, in what is increasingly looking like it is going to be one of the most high-quality fields assembled for the title.
Selby joins Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Stephen Maguire and Mark Williams with just two spots remaining.
Holt, Wilson, Mark Davis and Graeme Dott have another chance in Group 6 which takes places today and tomorrow.
They will be joined by Martin Gould, Ali Carter and Fergal O’Brien, as David Gilbert and Ricky Walden have both been eliminated.
