Matthew Selt beat Liang Wenbo 3-2 in the final of Group 7 of the Championship League to book the final place in this week’s Winners’ Group.
The Chinese no.2 had finished top of the round-robin after five victories out of six in the league format before edging Kyren Wilson in a semi-final decider.
However, Liang surrendered a 2-0 lead in the final to Selt, who came back from the brink after also beating Mark Davis in the last four.
Davis agonisingly missed the opportunity to compile a 147 during the league phase when, on 134, he went in-off after potting the pink attempting to go all around the angles to finish on the final black.
With all the qualification groups now complete, attention turns to the star-studded Winners’ Group which takes place on Wednesday and Thursday in Crondon Park.
Selt joins an illustrious band of names which includes Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Stephen Maguire, Mark Williams, Mark Selby and Ali Carter.
A similar format ensues with the seven up against each other once in round-robin best of three encounters before the top four go through to the semi-finals.
Along with the trophy, the players will also be competing for a place in the lucrative Champion of Champions next season.
