The Scot hasn’t won a trophy yet on the World Seniors Snooker Tour.
Stephen Hendry made a good start to the 2021 World Seniors Championship, beating Patsy Fagan 3-0 at the Crucible Theatre on Thursday.
The seven-time world champion is among the favourites for glory this year having recently accepted an invitational card to compete on the professional Main Tour again.
Hendry is yet to win silverware at the seniors level, but he’ll be hoping to rectify that this weekend at a venue which holds so many positive memories for the 52 year-old.
A break of 44 helped the former world number one get on the scoreboard against Ireland’s Fagan – the winner of the inaugural UK Championship way back in 1977.
Hendry then won a scrappy second frame before compiling his highest break of the clash, a handsome run of 81, to move forward into the World Seniors quarter-finals where he’ll play either 1991 world champion John Parrott or popular Brazilian Igor Figueiredo.
Elsewhere, Patrick Wallace contributed breaks of 85 and 67 to edge Michael Judge 3-2 in what was an interesting all-Irish affair.
Darren Morgan triumphed in his all-Welsh fixture with Lee Walker by the same narrow one-frame margin, constructing an excellent tournament-high break of 112 along the way.
Meanwhile, David Lilley overcame Philip Williams 3-1 to set up a showdown with either Ken Doherty, who was last year’s runner-up, or Joe Johnson.
Reigning champion Jimmy White will also be in action on day two at the Crucible Theatre on Friday, with the Whirlwind set to face fellow former world number two Tony Knowles.
Live coverage is on the BBC’s digital platforms with selected matches expected to be shown on the Red Button, while fans in most other regions will be able to watch on Matchroom.Live via a subscription.
