British Open snooker qualifiers draw and schedule

The British Open qualifiers take place next week with snooker returning to the Morningside Arena in Leicester from Monday.

There will be six days of preliminary-round action as players on the main tour attempt to reach the venue stages of the season’s third ranking tournament.

This year’s edition will be staged at The Centaur in Cheltenham for the first time towards the end of September.

The top seeds all have their opening fixtures held over to the main stages of the competition next month.

That includes defending champion Ryan Day, world champion Luca Brecel, and world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan.

The likes of Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, John Higgins, and Mark Williams will play their first matches at the venue itself as well.

Shaun Murphy, who has won three ranking titles in 2023 so far including the season-opening Championship League, will also have his match deferred.

Most of the remaining competitors on the pro snooker circuit will have to negotiate their British Open qualifiers under a cubicle setting.

The British Open is one of only a couple of tournaments on the calendar that utilises a random draw format throughout.

Matches in the qualifiers will be the best of seven frames, which usually leads to a few upsets so getting off to a quick start may prove pivotal.

Among those set to participate in Leicester are 2023 World Championship semi-finalist Si Jiahui, Hossein Vafaei, Stuart Bingham, and Jimmy White.

The latter, who won the World Seniors Championship in May, faces Stephen Maguire in a repeat of their European Open final showdown from 19 years ago.

There will be live coverage in the UK on Facebook, in Europe on discovery+, and in other territories outside China on Matchroom.Live.

The British Open boasts a total prize fund of almost half a million pounds, with a cheque worth £100,000 awarded to the champion on October 1st.

Meanwhile, to be in with a chance of winning some money of your own, play online games like bingo, slingo, and slots.
