Scottish Open: 2024 draw, preview, prize money, how to watch

The venue stages of the 2024 Scottish Open commence on Monday with the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Kyren Wilson in the draw.

Gary Wilson is the two-time defending champion, the Englishman having dominated the event since it moved to the Meadowbank Sports Centre a couple of years ago.

This year’s Scottish Open represents the 11th ranking event on the 2024/25 snooker season schedule, and it’s the last opportunity to win ranking silverware during the 2024 calendar year.

There was already a preliminary phase held at the end of October in Sheffield, whittling down the lower-ranked contenders.

The action in the competition resumes with the top 32 seeds entering the fray on Monday, and the coveted Stephen Hendry Trophy will be awarded on Sunday, December 15th.

Who are the former champions?

This version of the Scottish Open was launched in 2016 as part of the Home Nations series, and five of its six former champions are in the draw this year.

Only inaugural champion Marco Fu is absent from the field, the Hong Kong cueist having not entered the event in 2024.

Gary Wilson and Mark Selby are both two-time champions, with the former hoping to make it a hat-trick of consecutive glories this week.

Neil Robertson, Mark Allen, and Luca Brecel have all previously enjoyed success in the Scottish Open before as well.

Who are the favourites in the 2024 Scottish Open draw?

Ronnie O’Sullivan, who reached the final in 2020 and won a previous version of the Scottish Open in 1998 and 2000, is the pre-tournament favourite with the bookies.

The Rocket boasts odds of 5/1 to land what would only be his second title on the Home Nations series.

O’Sullivan has made a habit of withdrawing from smaller events at the last minute, including at the Scottish Open itself in 2023, so his participation can’t be guaranteed until he actually shows up at the venue.

Recent UK champion Judd Trump, who has generally been the favourite for events this season, has chosen to skip this week’s action.

Mark Williams is another high-profile name absent from the Scottish Open draw, but the likes of Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Mark Allen, and home favourite John Higgins are fancied as usual to contend for the silverware.

Reigning champion Gary Wilson has odds of around 28/1 to orchestrate a repeat victory, while last weekend’s Shoot Out king Tom Ford is considered an 80/1 long shot.
