How the last 16 looks at the 2025 German Masters

A mix of players from up and down the world rankings list will feature in the last 16 of the 2025 German Masters on Thursday in Berlin.

Only five of the top 16 seeds remain in the hunt for glory and the £100,000 top prize that’s on offer at the Tempodrom this year.

Among them, however, are the world numbers one and two with Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson both on course to land a third ranking title of the campaign.

Trump, who has won three out of the last five editions of the German Masters including in 2024, hammered Joe O’Connor 5-0 in the last 32 on Wednesday.

The 35 year-old compiled five frame-winning breaks to comprehensively overcome his fellow Englishman and set up a thrilling tie against old rival Neil Robertson.

Robertson had looked in trouble when he trailed Hammad Miah 3-1 and 4-2, but the Australian extended his run in the competition with the aid of four century breaks.

Wilson is on the other side of the draw and will next face Jak Jones in a repeat of the 2024 World Snooker Championship final.

The pair emerged with respective 5-3 defeats of Zhou Yuelong and John Higgins on day three in the German capital city.

The only other seeded competitors left in contention are Shaun Murphy, Barry Hawkins, and Zhang Anda.

With confidence high following his success at the prestigious Masters in London, Murphy won a second successive match with a 5-0 scoreline – this time thumping Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.

Hawkins had a testier time of it but still managed to oust Ben Woollaston by a two-frame margin.

The Hawk moves directly into the quarter-finals after the overnight withdrawal of Ricky Walden while Murphy entertains Yuan Sijun, with both Englishmen in the same top half of the draw as Trump.

Also in this section is Wu Yize, who fought his way back from 4-2 behind to edge Mark Allen in a deciding frame.

The English Open and Scottish Open runner-up takes on Alexander Ursenbacher in the next round after the Swiss world number 88 stunned Ali Carter with a whitewash win.

Zhang, meanwhile, is in the bottom half of the draw alongside Wilson – the Chinese former ranking event winner set to play Anthony McGill.

Xiao Guodong continued his fine form this term by ousting Si Jiahui in a deciding frame, setting up a meeting with Elliot Slessor who pipped Mark Selby in the same way.

The other last-16 tie will see 2023 runner-up Tom Ford face Aaron Hill, the young Irishman reaching this stage of a ranking event for the first time this season.
