The 2025 World Open starts on Sunday in Yushan with the likes of defending champion Judd Trump and world champion Kyren Wilson in the draw.
World number one Trump returns to action after skipping the recent Welsh Open in Llandudno, while Wilson will hope to add to his season-leading tally of three ranking crowns.
The World Open is an important event on this year’s calendar for a couple of reasons.
While money earned here won’t count towards qualification for next week’s World Grand Prix, they will help to determine the 16 spots on offer through the one-year ranking list at the subsequent Players Championship.
Players in the draw who are further down the official two-year rankings will also be under pressure to gain potentially vital points in their tour survival efforts.
After the World Open, a lot of the competitors on the main tour will only have the World Championship to contest before the campaign’s conclusion.
There is a hefty prize fund available, with a handsome £175,000 cheque on offer for the winner next week.

Who is in the 2025 World Open draw?
A qualifying round was staged in December to whittle down the field that will participate at the Yushan Sport Centre.
Trump and Wilson, however, were among a select few contenders who had their preliminary-round fixtures held over.
The English duo will first encounter Xing Zihao and Hammad Miah respectively, with top-ranked Chinese pair Ding Junhui and Zhang Anda also entering the fray from the same round.
Several heavy hitters are already through to the last 64, including the in-form Mark Selby, Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen, and John Higgins.
That being said, the 2025 World Open draw has already been decimated by a string of withdrawals.
Ronnie O’Sullivan announced earlier this week that he would be adding the tournament to his list of no-shows from the 2024/25 term.
Luca Brecel, Jak Jones, Ricky Walden, and Chris Totten have also pulled out despite having made it through their initial matches in the competition a couple of months ago in Sheffield.
Barry Hawkins, Ali Carter, Gary Wilson, and Xiao Guodong are other members of the top 16 who are in the hunt for glory.
