2025 Players Championship final: Judd Trump vs Kyren Wilson

There will be a humdinger climax to the 2025 Players Championship with Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson clashing in Sunday’s final in Telford.

A special title-deciding contest pits the two best players from this season against each other.

Trump and Wilson have accumulated six pieces of silverware between them since the start of the 2024/25 snooker campaign.

The pair of Englishmen are out on their own at the top of the world rankings, and this showdown will add another chapter to a growing rivalry that is becoming arguably the biggest in the sport at present.

Wilson has already beaten Trump twice in finals this term – at the inaugural Xi’an Grand Prix and again at the Northern Ireland Open in Belfast.

It’s an intriguing dynamic with Wilson consistently threatening the widely viewed status of Trump being the best player in the world these days.

The latter did manage to beat Wilson at the UK Championship en route to securing that prestigious title for the second time in his career in December.

Trump boasts the superior head-to-head record overall with 20 triumphs to Wilson’s 16 in all competitions.

However, the 35 year-old has only prevailed once from five previous meetings when they have crossed paths in finals.

Trump reached the 2025 Players Championship final with a 6-4 defeat of John Higgins in Saturday’s second semi-final encounter.

By compiling two century breaks, he took his season tally of tons to 91 as he edges closer to that century of centuries milestone that will earn him a cool ยฃ100,000 bonus.

First, Trump will be hoping to claim the ยฃ150,000 top prize that’s on offer for winning the third-last ranking event of the season.

The top seed is bidding for a fourth career title on the Players Series – events where qualification is based off the one-year ranking list.

Wilson, by contrast, is hunting down his first glory at either the World Grand Prix, Players Championship, or Tour Championship.

In Friday’s first semi-final tie, the 33 year-old fought his way back from 4-1 and 5-4 behind to edge Neil Robertson in a deciding frame.

The 2025 Players Championship final takes place over 19 frames on Sunday, March 23rd with sessions commencing at 1pm and 7pm UTC.

Undoubtedly the two outstanding players of the season. Selby has had some good runs, Murphy has had a couple of purple patches, Allen was good in the early season and Robertson has continued his rehabilitation. Even Higgins and Williams have had flashes. These two however are far and away the men of the last year or so. Trump for the last two years. Trump looks truly ominous now for anyone not called Wilson.

O’Sullivan was the standout player with Trump last term.

Wilson appearing in an 18th ranking final and Trump his 49th. The Warrior is one of the few that fancies the job against the world number one. He’s only 13-12 down, according to the ITV h2h, and DC has pointed out Wilson enjoying a superior record in finals.

Three of the opening round games at the Tour Championship are repeats of first round ties in Telford. It’s possible the Player’s Championship quarter-final lineup could be replicated in Manchester.

      All four of them: Selby-Si, Hawkins-Murphy, Ding-Williams and Xiao-Wu.

Yes, you’re right. Not ideal but doesn’t mean they can’t be entertaining matches. I hope we get at least a couple of different last eight match-ups.
