QUIZ! World Snooker Championship Moments

Fifty days and counting. That’s right – only 50!

World Snooker Championship Moments
Counting down the days until the start of the big one in Sheffield.

As we move into March, there is the exciting realization that the season-ending World Snooker Championship starts next month, with less than six weeks until the qualifiers and a cool half century of days until the main event itself at the Crucible Theatre.

The annual four-week slog in Sheffield is the sport’s blue riband event and there isn’t anything else on the calendar that comes even close to rivaling its duration, drama, and the prestige it bestows on its winners.

Mark Selby will of course be returning as the defending champion in 2018, with the Leicester man seeking to conjure up another bit of history as he bids for a third title in a row.

It’s a feat that has only been achieved at the Crucible by two other players – legends Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry – and Selby indeed was the man to deny the last player in a position to make the accomplishment when he captured his maiden world crown at the expense of Ronnie O’Sullivan in 2014.

If you decide to check out the best odds for snooker and place a bet, you should check your options. Selby is the second favourite for the Worlds behind O’Sullivan in the outright odds for this year and there are plenty of bonus offers to avail from if you’re looking to place a punt on a winner for 2018.

The World Snooker Championship, with an exhilarating qualifying tournament in its own right that sees the players lower down the world rankings list fiercely battle it out for the coveted remaining spots in the Crucible, where the 17-day “Marathon of the Mind” occurs, will undoubtedly provide us with new memories this year to add to the countless others that have been witnessed and enjoyed down through the years since 1977.

From John Spencer’s crowning moment in the inaugural staging of the event in Sheffield more than four decades ago to Selby’s successful defence┬álast year, becoming only the fourth man to do so, there are umpteen recollections to call upon when debating the highs and lows of one of sport’s greatest prizes.

After the conclusion of the Welsh Open this weekend, there’ll only be a few ranking tournaments remaining for the majority of the chasing pack to find a way to break into the top 16 in the world rankings and gain that elusive automatic Crucible berth.

As ever, there’ll be full coverage of the World Snooker Championship here with plenty of reports, features, quizzes, and more to look forward to across April and into early May.

But why not get the ball rolling a little in advance with a teaser to help get us all in the mood for the inevitable excitement that lies ahead?

In this quiz, you’ll be provided with 41 memorable moments – one for every edition of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible – and all you have to do is match them with the corresponding year from 1977 to 2017.

The questions is, how well do you know the World Snooker Championship Moments?
