The Scot has been clinging onto the all-time record for ranking successes on the Main Tour recently.
Stephen Hendry’s ranking victories tally of 36 has stood as the landmark to surpass since his last triumph 15 years ago.
Since then numerous players have closed the gap, and old rival Ronnie O’Sullivan even managed to equal the formidable figure when he landed the Tour Championship in 2019.
It’s almost inevitable that the “Rocket” will soon move out in front on his own, but for now at least he must share the stat with Hendry.
A few days ago we checked out O’Sullivan’s titles and the opponents he had to face in each final in order to each his name onto the silverware on each occasion.
This time, it’s the turn of the seven-time world champion, with Hendry’s ranking victories spanning 18 years between 1987 and 2005.
Thanks predominantly to his resounding dominance in the 1990s, Hendry notched up his 36th glory about eight years quicker than the period it took O’Sullivan to match that number.
Many of the players he overcame to be crowned champion remain professionals on the circuit today, while even the ones who have retired will generally represent familiar names to most fans – although there are one or two tricky ones to get as well.
The question is, how many final opponents from Hendry’s ranking victories can you answer correctly? (surnames are accepted)
