Judd Trump and Ricky Walden Chase £200,000 in Gibraltar

Judd Trump and Ricky Walden play each other in the last 16 of the Gibraltar Open on Saturday.

The English pair will know that a victory over the other could lead to a lucrative opportunity to land a whopping £200,000 this weekend.

There is a £50,000 champion’s cheque up for grabs for winning the Gibraltar Open, but Trump and Walden are also in the hunt for the £150,000 European Series bonus.

John Higgins is currently in pole position to claim the jackpot, but Trump or Walden could usurp the Scot with success in Gibraltar after Higgins suffered defeat in the third round.

The European Series bonus, sponsored by BetVictor, is awarded to the player with the most earnings across eight counting events on the calendar.

Trump, who has sprung into form at a good time of the season following back-to-back appearances in ranking event finals, has won the European Series in each of the last two seasons.

Meanwhile, the fourth round line-up of the Gibraltar Open was confirmed after the second half of the field was whittled down on Friday.

Former champion Stuart Bingham compiled a magnificent 147 break en route to setting up a last-16 tie against amateur top-up Soheil Vahedi.

Neil Robertson, Kyren Wilson, and Ding Junhui are other notable names still in the contention at the Europa Point Sports Complex.

Robertson, who is the only other player remaining who can win the European Series, faces Jak Jones and is in the opposite half of the draw to Trump and Walden.

Should the Australian reach the final, only a tournament triumph for Trump would deny the 40 year-old the £150,000 bonus.

Kettering’s Wilson is in action against Tom Ford, while a rejuvenated Ding entertains Jimmy Robertson.

A battle of the Bens will take place between Woollaston and Hancorn, the former after ousting Ronnie O’Sullivan in the opening round.

The other two clashes see Jordan Brown play Jamie Jones and Lyu Haotian taking on Robert Milkins.

All four remaining rounds will be played on Saturday as the best-of-seven tournament concludes and a champion for 2022 is crowned.
