Star players win in International Championship qualifiers

A number of high-profile players were in action at the International Championship qualifiers on Thursday in Sheffield.

Two-time champion Mark Selby and 2018 winner Mark Allen were both victorious at Ponds Forge, recording a pair of 6-2 triumphs.

Selby compiled a break of 102 to see off the challenge of Muhammad Asif while Allen contributed a brace of tons in overcoming Ma Hailong.

Mark Williams, Kyren Wilson, and Jack Lisowski also advanced on day four of the International Championship qualifiers.

Williams thrashed Rebecca Kenna 6-0 to comfortably book his spot in the last 64 of the ranking event in November.

English duo Wilson and Lisowski earned respective 6-3 victories over Adam Duffy and He Guoqiang.

Elsewhere, the biggest drama of the day saw Lyu Haotian and David Lilley’s encounter go all the way to a decider.

The Chinese competitor withstood a late rally from his opponent to eventually seal success in the eleventh frame with a break of 84.

Among the others to move forward to the venue stages in Tianjin were Fan Zhengyi, Jamie Jones, and Elliot Slessor.

On Friday, the preliminary stage continues with Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy, and John Higgins among those in action.
