15 Years of SnookerHQ.com

Fifteen years ago today, the first article was published on SnookerHQ.com.

What began as a small personal blog on May 27, 2011 has since developed into a leading independent source of snooker news online, with thousands of published posts and millions of readers from around the world visiting the website over the last decade and a half.

Back then, there was certainly no expectation that the site would still be running 15 years later.

The professional game itself was in a very different place.

The calendar was undergoing significant changes, with the sport under the new leadership of Barry Hearn only beginning to recover from one of its most difficult periods.

Since then, snooker has expanded dramatically with more tournaments, greater prize money, and wider international interest than ever before.

Throughout that time, SnookerHQ has had the privilege of covering countless major moments in the sport – World Championships, memorable finals, shocks, controversies, retirements, comebacks, and the emergence of new generations of stars.

The website has also evolved considerably.

What started primarily as a blog became a more complete snooker news and features platform with daily coverage, player profiles, rankings updates, explainers, records, historical content, interviews, and quizzes from across the professional and amateur game.

What has been particularly satisfying is seeing SnookerHQ establish itself as a trusted and recognisable source of snooker coverage for readers around the world.

The digital publishing landscape has changed dramatically across the last 15 years, making long-term sustainability increasingly difficult for independent websites.

Because of that, the site’s longevity and continued growth are a source of great pride.

There have naturally been ups and downs along the way, but the aim has always remained consistent – to provide reliable, dedicated, and wide-ranging snooker coverage for fans of the sport.

The site’s success would not have been possible without the support of readers who continue to visit on a daily basis.

Whether you discovered SnookerHQ recently or have been following the website for many years, every visit, comment, share, and interaction has contributed to helping the platform grow into what it is today.

For that, I offer my sincere thanks.

SnookerHQ continues to cover the sport with the same commitment and consistency that have defined the website since 2011.

And hopefully, there is plenty more to come.

Cheers!

  1. Hi David.
    Congratulations!
Always reading your comments with great intrest.
    Keep up the good work!
By the way: I bumped into snooker in 1983 when my parents discovered that their ‘tv distribution’, as we used to call it, had added the BBC to the package. And just like that, I found myself intrigued by the battle between Steve Davis and Alex Higgins in – what proved to be a legendary final of – the UK Championship. Never imagined I would start commentating in 1990 for Dutch Eurosport and still be doing that in 2026… So, trust me: 15 years is only the beginning! 🙂
    Enjoy the day.

    Happy 15th birthday!

This site remains a crucial source of objective and well considered analysis, and a site to interact with fellow snooker fans.

Congratulations David. Many thanks for all your hard work. What would us snooker fans do without you!

  4. Thank you and congratulations.

  5. Congratulations for the dedication and passion you have displayed, evident in your writing. I was an auto racing publisher/journalist for about 30 years and can identify with the enthusiasm it takes to produce your work. Since I was so used to looking at the result of a race and seeing who won how much money, my only constructive comment on your work is to show us a boxscore after each tourney showing us total prize fund and a breakdown of how much each player received. We don’t need that information, but it is entertaining to see the monetary results of player’s efforts. Best wishes for the future, and keep up the great work.

    • Yeah, it’s a good suggestion. The problem with any kind of content that requires data input is that it’s so time consuming to do. But something to consider for sure. Cheers.

  6. Congratulation David. This is a great site because of you and I am grateful. Thank you very much and all the best.

Well done David. Fifteen years commitment speaks for itself. Dad.

  8. I’d changed flats and sold my TV, hadn’t had one for a good while — finally bought one, didn’t watch much.
Looking back, it must’ve been 2004, a very cold night (-20C) in early December — too cold to go out, started flipping channels — on Eurosport they were showing a billiard game — never seen it before — started watching — took a little while for me to understand the game — once I did, I found it very interesting.
That had to be the UK Championship, the timing is right — but I don’t remember the event, nor do I remember who was playing.
So I started watching a little bit of snooker when I had the chance.
The first tournament I remember watching was the 2005 World Championship, won by a baby-faced Shaun Murphy.
I’m not the biggest snooker fan, but nowadays I watch matches in a number of tournaments (not all) during the year.

I don’t remember how arrived at your website — but I find it both informative and entertaining, with the articles written in an accessible style — so thanks very much for the work you do to put up the content, congrats on the anniversary, and continued success/growth — and thanks for allowing comments too.
