After the completion of the Northern Ireland Open on Sunday, we’re feeling a bit snookered with the lack of professional snooker on our screens for the next week or so.
It’s a timely opportunity to recharge the batteries a little ahead of the UK Championship in York, the second biggest ranking title in terms of prestige that is contested each season.
Rarely to be completely starved of snooker, there’s still a number of other events taking place over the next few days around the world.
More than 40 amateur cueists head to Budapest for Challenge Tour 8, with only that event in Hungary and two more after it counting towards the final Challenge Tour Order of Merit standings – which will provide two spots onto the pro circuit next year.
In Myanmar, it’s the 2018 IBSF World Championship – traditionally the most prestigious global amateur prize but these days facing competition from the breakaway World Snooker Federation Championship.
The Eden Women’s Masters will also take place at the weekend with Reanne Evans returning as the defending champion at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
The China vs UK Challenge tournament between a team from China and another from the UK was also due to be held on Saturday and Sunday but it has been postponed, with World Snooker citing logistical issues with the local promoter in Asia.
As usual, we like to keep ourselves entertained when there’s a bit of a lull in activity here at SHQ with a little quiz.
With that in mind, it’s the launch of a new series of quizzes called “Snookered” in which you have two minutes to match the hint with the correct answer.
However, be careful, as a wrong answer will result in a premature end to the quiz.
The question is, how snookered are you?
