There are only a few days to go until the eagerly anticipated start of the 2018 UK Championship at the Barbican Centre in York.
Ronnie O’Sullivan will be returning as the defending champion following his 10-5 triumph over Shaun Murphy twelve months ago, and the “Rocket” will be attempting to land a record-breaking seventh title this year.
Of course, the 42 year-old will face stiff competition with several players inside and outside the top 16 in the world rankings hoping to make themselves viable contenders for the season’s opening Triple Crown tournament.
While the silverware is obviously the primary agenda for all of the competitors in the 128-man field, for some it also represents the last opportunity to add money to their tallies in the Race to the Masters.
The top 16 after the conclusion in York will qualify for the prestigious invitational at the Alexandra Palace in January, with Jack Lisowski currently the man defending the last position in the provisional standings.
Before all that, there are a couple of other events taking place this weekend with the eighth leg of the inaugural Challenge Tour in Hungary, while the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester hosts the Eden Women’s Masters.
