The 2023 edition of the Masters represents the 12th at the Alexandra Palace – a venue loved by players and fans alike.
There was once a time when the Masters was synonymous with the Wembley Conference Centre, but now it’s hard to imagine it being played anywhere other than the Ally Pally.
Other popular venues down through the years have included Goffs in Ireland, the Tempodrom in Germany, or of course the Crucible Theatre that hosts the World Snooker Championship each year.
But these days the Alexandra Palace is right up there among the favourites for players to compete in.
“I think now I’ve got to admit that this is the best venue we’ve ever played in, it’s even better than the Wembley Conference Centre,” Mark Williams told the World Snooker Tour last year.
“It’s got a big lounge at the back, you’ve got the sofas at the other end, it’s a massive arena with 2,000 people in it or however many there was – it’s hard to generate an atmosphere like that.”
Always one of the most sought-after prizes in the game, the Masters has if anything been elevated even further since its move from the Wembley Arena a decade ago.
In 2012, there was a handsome top prize worth £150,000 but fast forward to 2023 and the winner’s share has increased to a whopping £250,000 jackpot – enormous sums of money that you could dream of earning at platincasino Ireland from its full collection of online games.
There is usually also a frenzied atmosphere inside the Alexandra Palace that sees some competitors rise to the occasion and others wilt under the pressure.
Added to the honour and prestige is the invitation process that guarantees only the top 16 on the official world ranking list entry to participate each season.
In fact, including this year only 34 players have lined up in the Masters since 2012 at the Alexandra Palace, and just four among those have featured in each edition during that period.
It’s no surprise then that there is so much weight attached to qualifying each year, especially with glitz and glamour associated with the presentation and setup at the venue.
