Judd Trump won the 2024 German Masters with a 10-5 victory over Si Jiahui in Berlin on Sunday.
In front of a huge crowd at the tremendous Tempodrom arena, Trump generally controlled the showdown for glory.
Victory for the 34 year-old, in what was his fourth final in the event’s history, adds to his previous German Masters triumphs in 2020 and 2021.
Trump has now won four ranking titles this season alone, with his overall career tally extended to 27 on the all-time list – just one behind legend Steve Davis.
The Englishman has earned more than half a million pounds in prize money from his performances in ranking tournaments this term.
It hasn’t quite been enough to usurp Ronnie O’Sullivan, who Trump lost to in the recent World Grand Prix final, at the top of the official world rankings list.
But Trump has been in relentless form throughout the 2023/24 campaign, boasting the silverware to prove it.
The early exchanges of the German Masters final were close as the pair traded the opening four frames.
After the mid-session interval, however, Trump gained the upper hand by winning three frames on the spin to lead 5-2.
Si, competing in his maiden ranking event final, won an important last frame of the first session to stay in touch.
The 21 year-old subsequently began the evening bout of play in superb fashion – compiling an excellent 123 century break to reduce the gap to one.
Yet seemingly galvanised by his young challenger’s rise in standard, Trump reeled off a hat-trick of speedy frames with contributions of 113, 108, and 74.
Si briefly rallied with a run of 64, but the Chinese competitor couldn’t withstand the pressure of his esteemed opponent.
Trump duly took the final two frames with breaks of 66 and 81 to complete the win.
In addition to the £80,000 champion’s cheque he pockets for emerging victoriously from this event, Trump also claimed the BetVictor European Series bonus of £150,000.
Even though there is the Welsh Open still to come in that eight-event swing, the world number two is already too far in front in the standings to be caught.
With another ranking title under his belt, Trump’s confidence will by sky high and his own record of six in a single campaign might come under threat.
